He announced that the road from Jail Chowrangi to Safoora Goth would be constructed on international standard, adding that after its construction, the concerned contractor would install lights.
He said, the City government would provide one more bus to Karachi University to facilitate the transportation of students.
Naimatullah Khan informed that a women library complex was under construction at University Road where girls and other women would have the facility to study.
He pointed out that after creation of Pakistan; there were only four libraries in Karachi and their number was not increased despite opening of thousands of new educational institutes and growth in population.
He described resource constraint as one reason in the way of construction of new libraries.
While emphasising the need for more libraries, the city Nazim was of the view that despite presence of internet and cable videos, the interest in book reading will not diminish.
In the west, he said, despite information technology (IT) boom, there was lot of interest in book reading.
He exhorted the boys and girl students to set examples of high standard of morality and pay maximum respect to their teachers and parents.
The function was also addressed by Registrar Karachi University, Professor Sikandar Mehdi, Professor Shafiqur Rehman, Dr Junaid Siddiqi, Professor Rais Ahmed, Professor Rafiq Alam, Project Incharge Tausif Ahmed, Wajahat Mushtaq and others. They also highlighted the advantages of a library.
Later, Naimatullah Khan visited the stalls set-up at the Book Fair by various academies and publishers. The exhibition will continue till Friday.
